Mini-blog #6 — Supercalifragi… nevermind

supercaliAccording to Mary Poppins, when one is overwhelmed and not sure what to say, one should simply say “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”  This will impress everyone around you with your personality and wit.  No matter who they might be, they will assume you are a person of quality and wish to spend more time with you.  This one word has the power to change your life.  This is FALSE!

Do not under any circumstances use this word in public outside the boundaries of the song.  Contrary to what we have been told, people are not impressed.  You are guaranteed to stop conversations and create awkward silences.  Even other Disney fans will look at you like you have lost your mind.  I have personal experience in this.  Do NOT believe Mary Poppins.  She lies.

There are a few go to phrases that I find serve me well in such situations.  They work for any number of overwhelming situations and can carry you far.  Tag these and save them for later.

  • Thank you.
  • I’m sorry.
  • I’m very honored.
  • (and my personal favorite) What do you think?

People will be impressed with your personality and wit.  They will admire your humility and thoughtfulness.  To quote Proverbs 17:28, “Even a fool when he holds his tongue in considered wise.”
